Spirtual, Moral, Social & Cultural Development
Social
Personal development of all our children is at the heart of our curriculum. Relationships between staff and pupils are built on mutual respect, where social skills can be modelled and grow. With guidance, our students develop positive relationships and close friendships with others and learn the value of shared experiences. Our ‘school buddies’ and “House System”, provide our children with opportunities to guide, care and support others in school. We educate our children to appreciate diverse viewpoints and accept ideas that differ from their own through our RE, PSHE/RSE schemes of work, teaching acceptance in diversity. Our Curriculum Enrichment programme provides our children with multiple experiences and opportunities. This helps them to consider how they can make positive contributions to wider society, leaving a positive footprint.

Moral
Our wider learning at Dussindale helps our children to develop a sense of right and wrong. This ensures that our children are society ready and emotionally resilient as they move on to secondary education. Our staff lead by example, challenging poor behaviour and modelling appropriate interactions at all times. Behaviour management systems are robust, with restorative approaches in place to ensure our children are able to reflect, learn and grow from all experiences.
Children have visits from people in the local community , who educate about the rule of law, how to avoid criminality and how to make positive life choices. Teaching about British Values and the Protected Characteristics runs throughout our curriculum.

Spirtual
To help our children to be society ready we encourage our children to reflect on their learning, considering not only what they learn academically, but also the lessons learnt as they develop an understanding of the wider world and their place within it. This includes building self-esteem, confidence and emotional resilience, whilst providing opportunities to reflect on their behaviours. Through PSHE and RE schemes of work our children are given opportunities to explore faiths and belief systems, and promote awe and wonder regarding the world in which they live. We encourage our children to hold their own beliefs in high regard, whilst understanding the importance of inclusivity and respecting the beliefs and viewpoints of others.

Cultural
Our curriculum is carefully planned, providing regular opportunities to develop cultural appreciation across a wide range of subjects. This includes the study of cultural influences which have shaped our own heritage and the exploration of a rich and varied selection of both fiction and non-fiction books. Our Dussindale Discoverers enrichment programme provides our children with cultural opportunities that they may not have experienced previously, such as visits to museums, galleries and places of worship to enhance their in class based learning. Our students are also presented with opportunities to engage and compete with students from other schools in a variety of sporting events. These community experiences and interactions help our students develop their understanding of wider society, whilst helping them to become society ready.
A wide range of different cultures are represented across our staff cohort, and this ensures that students understand, accept and appreciate this diversity as part of their daily lives. We also have an active pupil voice in school through our Digital leaders, School Council and House Captains who all play an important part in decision making processes and help to shape their school.
